I read Bridge to Terabithia recently, cried like a witch.
I then heard that baby Josh Hutcherson starred in the movie, so I watched the movie thinking I was strong enough, I am ashamed to admit that again I cried like a witch.
I ought to be studying but yet here I am, ugly crying over the death of Leslie Burke (Yeah I know you get it) She was a firefly that was never supposed to spark out this early.
I should mention that the way Jesse dealt with her death was so realistically done. To show how different people cope with death- having all kinds of thoughts including the selfish ones made me feel like it’s normal to think like that and especially to show that in a kids book. We can never control our swirling emotions when something terrible occurs. His confusion, his reluctance to believe the truth and then his anger by blaming everyone and then Leslie herself for what happened. It was very heartbreaking to read.
I wanted to read a chapter from Leslie’s POV too, It would have been nice to read about her thought process and the issues she was having with her family.

This book reminded me so much of Stargirl! I don’t know why there is not much to compare except for Leslie Burke’s peculiarities and her feeling like and outsider like Stargirl in this book. If you have read it already and loved it then definitely check out A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness- my all time favourite book and of course Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. Both are super short but amazing reads that even adults should read.
Mad hatter in a seemingly strange wonderland.
