How Society Kills Our Potential3 min read

In today’s ever-changing world. Somehow, we have categorized every individual and put them into different categories. Yet, we talk about everyone being different. The world keeps evolving yet somehow, Life fell into a linear pattern where we are not the ones deciding our path. We keep going through a set of steps set by the society and keep fearing the supernatural beings called “People”. We keep hearing about how People might just strangle you. If you do anything out of the ordinary. In this fear we box ourselves in, and the human becomes robot which follows a set programming set by the People. We keep going through the path set by the world, stalling our dreams for future and fooling ourselves saying we’d get down to our dreams one day. That day never comes.

Society has made us into believing that there are the only a set of things you can do in life. Yet, we are given the examples of dropouts, rejects and failures for their achievement. Yes! I am talking about billionaires like Bill Gates, Jack Ma and Steve Jobs. We have been made to believe that life can only be lived in a selected way and there is no other way.

go find yourself

All the people you see who are successful and really enjoying life are not the people who go with the flow. Instead, they are the rebels who went against the current to do what no other is doing. And after a while, people end up dreaming of working under these people.

So, what did they do differently?

The only thing they did is to find their own way through life. We keep trying to follow successful people’s lives and end up not focusing on what we want to do. Why can’t we live life on our terms, take healthy breaks, give ourselves lots of exposure, get in touch with our feelings, meet awesome people and trust that this journey will lead us to the most fulfilling choices and the life we truly deserve to live!

We keep trying to find ourselves in others. Yet, forget to look into our own selves.

The funny part is that you don’t even know why you fear the so-called “People”. They keep limiting us. We keep asking ourselves that who am I to be as talented as Bill Gates? but we forget that Bill was also a farmer’s son. Then who was he to become a billionaire? As Marianne Williamson says,

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make, manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

society kills our potential

So, stop fearing. Go out of the box. Go find your own path. Because what was weird yesterday is cool today. Then, who are you not to be cool?
